Grandpa Ed started experimenting with turkey calls around 1996. A friend broke his turkey call and wanted to know if it could be repaired. After working on the call, Grandpa ended up with a better sounding call than the original.

Ed has been experimenting with calls ever since. In fact, his first call for himself was made out of wood from an old sewing machine drawer.

Grandpa Ed makes many different styles of calls including three different black walnut three-chambered turkey calls including a collector's grade box and presentation grade box, both with a pewter inlay of a strutting gobbler, and an all black walnut field grade box. The pewter inlays are unique to Grandpa Ed's calls and are cast by Grandma Vasek.

He has also made wing bone calls featuring polished cow horn ends and is experimenting with a turtle shell slate. All of the calls are personalized to the recipient.

If you have been to the NWTF national convention, you've probably seen some of Ed's calls. He has placed several times in the NWTF call making competitions. He calls the East Dakota Chapter of South Dakota NWTF home and has been a committee member for 9 years.
